Israelis commemorate second anniversary of October 7th incident as Palestinian ceasefire talks continue
People have assembled around the country to commemorate 24 months since the Hamas-initiated assault on October 7th, 2023, as negotiations advanced in the neighboring country over an end to the war in Gaza.
The assault resulted in in excess of 1,200 people dead and 251 others captured away to Gaza as captives. It was the single deadliest day for the Jewish community since the Second World War.

"The violent adversaries have hit us hard, but they have not broken us," the prime minister remarked on that day.
He also pledged to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the release of all the abducted, the removal of the Hamas administration and the guarantee that Gaza will not pose a risk to Israel".
